Season: June to July
Description: The most common variety of strawberry cultivated around the world is the garden strawberry. First bred in Brittany, France in 1740, it's a cross between a North American and a Chilean variety. The Britons, famous for their crepes, were undoubtedly looking for an ideal crepe filling. And voila! They did it. France still grows strawberries today, but as of 2007, the largest global producers were the United States,Russia, Spain, Turkey and South Korea.
